Using 0870, 0871, 0845, 0844 numbers in a business continuity situation

In the last blog we mentioned you can use non geographic numbers for business continuity planning. Here we expand on how this can be achieved.

Suppose BT or cable TV engineers cut through your phone line whilst working (it happens all the time) or your phone provider suffers a temporary outage (I used to work in a vendor support department supporting BT's business network so know this happens often as well).

You simply log into your provider supplied web interface and change the destination of your 08XX number.

Some providers will let you route to mobile phones for an agreed cost.

You may even choose to work from home or another office while the problem is repaired. This is a very simple yet effective way of using 0870, 0871, 0845, 0844 (etc) numbers.
